April 28, 2011

The fifth month of the year now has an additional celebration to go with May Day (May 1), Cinco de Mayo (May 5), Mother’s Day (May 8), International Museum Day (May 18), and Memorial Day (May 30). May has been deemed Half Off Hollywood Month for Southlanders, it was announced today by Leron Gubler, President and CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.

During Half Off Hollywood Month, residents of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura Counties will receive 50 percent off at seven Hollywood Boulevard attractions. There are no coupons to bring or certificates to print to get half off admission, according to Tej Sundher, Co-Chair of the Chamber’s Tourism Committee and owner of the Hollywood Wax Museum. Southlanders need only mention Half Off Hollywood and show verification of residency at the box offices of the Guinness World Records Museum, Hollywood Museum, Hollywood Wax Museum, LA City Tours, Madame Tussauds Hollywood, Ripley’s Believe it Or Not!, or Starline Tours. Visitors will also find free fun at Bug Fest, hosted by Daniella Martin from Girl Meets Bug, at Ripley’s Believe it Or Not! on May 21 at 2 pm.

“May is filled with festivities and historic moments for Hollywood, including the debut of Star Wars at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre on May 25, 1977” said Gubler. “So, we felt it was a particularly appropriate month to create an annual Hollywood holiday for our neighbors and give them a chance to enjoy what most people travel hundreds or thousands of miles to experience.”

Marking the debut of Half Off Hollywood Month, Los Angeles City Councilman Tom LaBonge changed Hollywood Boulevard’s name to Half Off Hollywood Boulevard. “Hollywood Boulevard is known all over the world, but in May we’re calling it Half Off Hollywood Boulevard to remind people in Greater Los Angeles that this town is theirs. From Simi Valley to Santa Monica and San Bernardino to Santa Ana, the 17.6 million people who live in the Southland can come here to play in May and get a great deal at the attractions on Half Off Hollywood Boulevard,” said La Bonge.

Half Off Hollywood was conceived by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Tourism Committee and funded by the Hollywood Chamber, LA Inc. (Los Angeles Convention & Visitors Bureau), Hollywood Business Improvement District, and the seven participating attractions.
